Antique Ghanaian dry core powder glass beads called Akoso were possibly manufactured by the Krobo people. The surface of Akoso beads are commonly yellow although they do rarely exhibit the colors green, blue and very rarely black. These powder glass beads usually have a dark gray core. The most common Akoso surface decorations consists of criss cross loops, lonitudinal stripes and circles. Sometimes whole Venetian made beads called white hearts or green heart beads are used as accents or eyes. Very rarely the use of antique Venetian chevron beads as a decoration is also seen and these beads are very coveted by serious bead collectors. |
